What is ASA-CF08?
ASA-CF08 is a carbon fiber–reinforced ASA filament containing 8% carbon fiber. It’s engineered for outdoor, UV-exposed applications where strength, stability, and a matte finish are essential.
What kinds of projects is it best for?
This material is a great choice for outdoor fixtures, housings, automotive prototypes, marine and agricultural equipment, jigs, drone frames, and more.
How heat-resistant is it?
ASA-CF08 maintains integrity at high temperatures. It offers a heat deflection temperature of 103 °C at 0.45 MPa and 97.3 °C at 1.8 MPa, making it dependable for parts exposed to sunlight.
How strong is it?
ASA-CF08 has a tensile strength of 43.5 MPa, a bending strength of 69.1 MPa, and a bending modulus of 3265 MPa. This combination of rigidity and toughness makes it suitable for durable, functional components.
Do I need a heated chamber?
No. ASA-CF08 prints reliably without a heated chamber. However, using an enclosure helps maintain consistent temperatures, especially for taller or larger prints, which reduces the chance of warping.
Will it wear out my nozzle?
Yes. The carbon fiber reinforcement is abrasive and will erode brass nozzles quickly. For best results, use a hardened steel or ruby nozzle.
Does it absorb moisture?
Yes. ASA-CF08 is moisture-sensitive and should be stored in a dry environment with relative humidity below 20 percent.
Does it produce fumes or odor?
Yes. Like all ASA filaments, it releases VOCs such as styrene when heated. Always print in a well-ventilated space, and ideally use an enclosure with a filtration system.
Is it ESD-safe?
No. ASA-CF08 is electrically insulating, with a surface resistivity greater than 10¹² Ω. It should not be used for electrostatic-sensitive applications.
What support material works best?
PolySupport™ for PA12 is recommended when soluble or breakaway supports are required.
Is ASA-CF08 AMS Compatible?
Due to the brittle and abrasive nature of ASA-CF08, caution is advised when used with AMS and other multi material systems.
What colors are available?
ASA-CF08 is offered in Light Grey, Dark Grey, Sand, Dark Red, Navy Blue, and Black.
Can I print ASA-CF08 without an enclosure?
Yes, but results are less consistent. Using an enclosure is recommended for reliability.
Does it need annealing?
No. ASA-CF08 reaches its full performance directly after printing and does not require annealing.
